KB Home launches new mobile site to reach potential homebuyers

KB Home, an American homebuilder, recently launched a mobile Web site that includes community information, prices and floor plans.

The site also features driving directions, home photos and renderings that are updated on a daily basis. Consumers can also click to call for the KB Home community selected by the consumer.

?The strategy is to ensure relevant and useful information about KB homes and communities is accessible to homebuyers wherever they are and whenever they need it,? said Wendy Marlett, senior vice president of sales, marketing and communications at KB Home, Los Angeles.

?As more and more people view their mobile device as a primary connection to the Internet, we want to ensure that they receive a rich mobile experience,? she said.

KB Home, a homebuilder that was founded in 1957, is known for its Built to Order approach that lets consumers build custom homes.

Reaching consumers
The mobile site features drop-down menus to direct consumers to the communities they are interested in.

Ms. Marlett said home shoppers are naturally on the go, as they are often on the road visiting new homes and new communities.

?KB Home's mobile site gives us an opportunity to put helpful information about our Built to Order homes, beautiful communities, flexible floor plans and low monthly payments at their fingertips no matter where they are,? Ms. Marlett said.

KB Home?s Built to Order homes are designed for first-time homebuyers such as young families and single buyers who are very comfortable with technology.

Ms. Marlett said given the younger age bracket a mobile site is a natural fit with KB Home?s customers.

KB Home is not the only real estate company getting into the mobile game.

Smarter Agent, a provider of GPS and multiple-listing-search-service applications to consumers and real estate agents, is now on every tier-one U.S. carrier after signing a deal with Verizon Wireless.

Smarter Agent was already on Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile for some time. The application is also now available on Google?s Android platform, joining BlackBerry and iPhone applications (see story).

KB Home said it created a mobile site because it wants to be accessible by current and potential customers anywhere, anytime and on any device.

Ms. Marlett said by creating a great mobile experience, the company is also deepening its connection with its brand.

?It's not just homebuilders who should have a mobile presence,? Ms. Marlett said. ?Any company who wants to stay relevant to their consumers needs to be available to them anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

?This kind of ubiquity represents the future of the Internet,? she said.
