MLB.com, Turner Sports, Fox Sports introduce mobile video for baseball playoffs

MLB.com is partnering with MLB postseason national television rights-holders Turner Sports and Fox Sports to offer interactive online and mobile video coverage of the MLB playoffs.

The Postseason.TV collaboration with MLB.com expands TBS HotCorner and Fox Feeds postseason baseball coverage and enables live interactive online viewing. Fans will also have the opportunity to make Postseason.TV portable, as the MLB.com At Bat 2009 application for iPhone and iPod touch provides mobile access to the same live camera angles, as well as the quad-mode option.

?It is a great thing for fans that we were able to work with these partners to deliver a single product, one that covers the entire postseason for the first time, to give them the immediate on-the-go live access they want during the postseason," said Matthew Gould, vice president of corporate communications for MLB.com, New York.

MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball, launched MLB.com Mobile Premium earlier this summer, a mobile-optimized live game product developed for the Palm Pre smartphone (see story).

MLB.com reports that its mobile applications have generated revenue (see story).

MLB.com, Turner Sports and Fox Sports launched Postseason.TV on Oct. 7, when the Division Series began on TBS.

Postseason.TV will be accessible from MLB.com, FoxSports.com on MSN and MLB.com/TBSHotCorner, as well as via the At Bat application.

Postseason.TV is available to all At Bat 2009 subscribers. The current one-time fee for the iPhone application is $9.99. There is no per game pricing, as that download fee includes video coverage of the entire MLB postseason (see story).

Postseason.TV lets fans customize their online viewing experience by offering up to 10 different stationary camera angles from every MLB postseason game, blackout free.

The subscription product for the first time offers a complete package of live Postseason action for a one-time fee of $9.95.

Postseason.TV delivers a complementary way for viewers to engage with the Division Series and National League Championship Series broadcasts on TBS and the American League Championship Series and World Series on Fox.

The New York Yankees will play the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the ALCS, while the Los Angeles Dodgers will play either the Philadelphia Phillies or Colorado Rockies in the NLCS.

Subscribers to PostSeason.TV can choose to watch one of the available camera angles or up to any four different angles simultaneously in the multi-view option.

In addition, TBS HotCorner and Fox Feeds will provide access to in-game video highlights, real-time statistics and play-by-play, as well as social media integration through a live Twitter feed.

?The target demographic for PostSeason.TV is, plainly and simply, baseball fans,? Mr. Gould said. ?They?ve told us this is what they want when they can?t be watching on TBS or Fox or be in attendance at the ballpark, and it?s our job to deliver that access to them in a way that just works.?
