CBS launches music, video iPad apps

CBS Interactive Music Group has debuted a pair of applications for the iPad that extend its radio and television assets to Apple's latest device.

The CBS Radio.com application gives iPad consumers access to more than 600 music, news and sports radio stations. The application features programming from CBS radio and its streaming partners, including Yahoo Music, and there is data and information from music service company Last.fm.

?The application was launched in order to increase the visibility and availability of CBS Radio and Last.fm?s stations and content, as well as that of its streaming partners,? said David Goodman, president of CBS Interactive Music Group, New York. ?Through the iPad, we can connect to our over 40 million monthly users in a new and engaging format and offer the ultimate online destination for radio listening.

?The Radio.com app serves as a one stop shop for the latest in music, sports and news and allows users to discover new music, stream tracks and create personalized radio stations,? he said. ?With the iPad, listeners can now touch, read and hear radio.?

CBS Interactive Music Group combines CBS radio?s digital music assets and Last.fm to give users content and community around their favorite music.

Users can interact with more than 550 programmed music stations at about three dozen news, talk and sports stations nationwide.

The application includes access to CBS radio?s over the air, HD multicast and digital-only stations, as well as more than 400 stations from other online radio providers.

Consumers can read the latest news and editorials on a favorite artist, follow local, national and breaking news and get updates on the latest scores and highlights from major sports teams and events.

Users who register on Radio.com can ?scrobble? music listening to a Last.fm profile to enable personalized music recommendations and let their friends see what they are listening to.

Additionally, consumers can view content from Last.fm, including artist pages and event listings. Photos can be viewed as a slide show when the iPad is turned on it side.

Consumers can search stations by location or genre, or visit any one of their 20 preset favorites

?Our target demographic includes music enthusiasts, news junkies and sports fans of every age,? Mr. Goodman said. ?Because of the wide array of content available through our collective assets and the variety of formats, each station differs in target demographic, but as a company, we have access to men and women of every age and background.?

CBS shows for iPad
CBS launched its video and audio programming for the iPad, where consumers can watch streaming video content from the CBS television shows, including ?How I Met Your Mother,? ?Two and a Half Men,? ?NCIS,? ?The Good Wife? and ?The Late Show with David Letterman.?

Additionally, users can download the company?s Simon & Schuster application, where they can browse through more than 7,000 eBook titles, which will be sold via the iBooks store.

?Our application is different than the iPhone application because, as a result of the size of the iPad, it allows for easier interaction with station content, videos, photos, slideshows, and Twitter feeds along with the ability to connect to Last.fm for optimized scrobbling,? said Mr. Goodman.

A majority of features accessible through the iPad application can also be found on the iPhone application,? he said.
